If You Go: EDITION Chicago

An EXPO weekend satellite offers a more casual art fair experience

I’m heading to EXPO CHICAGO this weekend, but I suffer from art fair anxiety (that overwhelming feeling of not being able to “see it all”) and it’s already kicking in. Not to say that I won’t enjoy the scene, but I’m already anticipating some deer-in-the-headlights moments.

EDITION Chicago is more of my scene. Hosted at Chicago Artists Coalition (CAC) in the West Loop, EDITION is a satellite fair to the extravaganza over at Navy Pier that focuses on more affordable contemporary art. Fourteen galleries and non-profit institutions from around North America are packed into the CAC’s intimate space, offering a more laid-back (but equally engaging) art fair experience.

Here are a few of the highlights from my trip today:

MKG127 (Toronto)

threewalls (Chicago)

Manneken Press (Bloomington, IL)

Also not to miss is SAIC alum Joseph G. Cruz (BFA, 2011)’s “Assembling Vestiges” at the BOLT Project Space within CAC. He’s also doing a special installation at EXPO (Booth #238).
