Deerhunter, the neo-psychedelic/garage/krautrock/shoegaze/ambient dream-pop powerhouse, return May 7 with the album “Monomania” on the 4AD label. Mysteriously, bassist Josh Fauver has been replaced with another Josh (McKay). Fauver had been with Deerhunter since 2004 when the band’s original bassist Justin Bosworth died from head injuries related to a skateboarding accident. Without being privy to the reason for the lineup change — I’m lamenting the loss of Fauver, whose punchy, driving basslines defined some of the band’s best material.
