In March, a United Nations report found that 17 million barrels of oil are needed to support the US market’s demand for bottled water.  It’s time for America to put down the bottle once and for all. Peter Gleick, author of Bottled and Sold: The Story Behind Our Obsession with Bottled Water (released May 2010) outlines scientific evidence as to why bottled water is completely unsustainable. “Probably my biggest concern is that I believe very strongly that water is a human right. There are a billion people worldwide today that don’t have access to safe tap water. The solution is not bottled  water.  The solution is developing high quality public water systems that can provide inexpensive water for everyone,” says Gleick.
