A few numbers to serve as a final note to the unstoppable coverage of Christo’s The Gates:

4 million people visited Central Park during the 16-day installation.
4 million dollars were spent on The Gates t-shirts, postcards and other paraphernalia.
21 million dollars the amount Christo and Jeanne-Claude say it cost to make The Gates, but they refuse to offer the breakdown (leaving some people to speculate if it really cost that much).
50 million dollars the amount financier Steven Greenberg offered Christo and Jeanne-Claude for The Gates. They declined the offer.
254 million dollars in economic activity was generated due to Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s work of art.
90 percent the amount of increase in attendance for the Metropolitan Museum of Art during the exhibition of The Gates.
