Panel One:

M: Okay so, okay so, my question for you is why do you think the south is not lost?

D: Hmm, Well…

Dinah munches on her bowl of something lunch, there is an arrow pointing to her with a caption “Dinah (Resident Southerner)”

Panel Two:

D: well there’s a lot of reasons for that just economically, like the south brings in so much economically speaking, Think about like oranges and so like it is like the farm lands and stuff. but more importantly the cultural aspects to it.

M: Oh yeah, the cultural aspects for real, especially from people who are not from there.

Madi and Dinah’s heads float around the panel.

Panel Three:

D: Mhmm (this is in agreement) they’ve never lived there. So their image of the south is a caricature of the south you know? Someone who’s uneducated, dirty, a hillbilly and a racist. Which is true but…

Dinah stands in the frame and below her is a drawing of the caricature of a southern person. One being a firefly (like from princess and the frog) and a white man with a red hat, no shirt and overalls.

Panel Four:

M: You are not making a good case…

D: They can be! I ain’t lyin!

Both of their heads are floating and we see Dinah’s cat.

Panel Five:

D: Mostly the south needs to heal it hasn’t yet. Like theres so many cultures.

Dinah closes her eyes and leans away with her arms folded.

Panel Six:

D: And people who need to heal. Speaking of healing…

Dinah is in a kitchen area and we see her cat in the background.

Panel Seven:

D: Every summer, I’d go live with my dad and I lived in my aunt’s house for a while because he was poor- Well anyways- there was this big canal. We would slide down there with our machete, and a big white bucket full of hose water.

There is a depiction of the creek with Dinah’s leg in frame. The bottom of the bucket is visible from her holding it.

Panel Eight:

D: And there were these grapefruit trees! I would take them- and mix them all up in the bucket. With sticks and shells and shit. I’d say “I’m making gumbo!” and then I force my cousins to drink it from the shells.

The bucket is in the middle and surrounding it are rocks, shells, sticks and grapefruits.

Panel Nine:

M: EWWWWW! Dinah that’s gross!

D: And if they didn’t like it I’d get mad. I just remember sweating my ass off stirring that damn gumbo.

Madi’s head floats above while Dinah’s body is at the bottom of the frame. She is standing with her arms crossed with a pleased look on her face. At the bottom it says in quotations “Dinah, that was NOT gumbo!!

Panel Ten:

M: Wait what does that have to do with healing?

D: Well my cousins probably still healin’ from the shit I fed em’.
