Jiantao Hu’s “Escape” is the story of Durking, a 16-year-old child soldier in World War II. Captured and imprisoned in a concentration camp with his grandfather, he learns that a dragon-shaped birthmark on his back is the seal of the gods. Can he escape the horrors of war, and if so, at what cost? Read an excerpt from the comic below.

Jiantao is a BFA student in Painting and Drawing at SAIC. His comic "Escape" has been selected for the 60th Anniversary Exhibition of the China Central Academy of Fine Arts, hosted in the Chinese Art Museum. His work also includes mural painting, which has been selected for exhibition by Hi USA, and video art, which will be part of the International Video and Performance Art Exhibition in the Venice Art House.
