Melika Bass, SAIC professor at the FVNMA department is currently showing her last film at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago. Her exhibition is part of the 12×12 program at the museum. One of the main interests of the exhibition (apart from having the opportunity of seeing her film) is the way in which she has transformed a theater film into a gallery project. I’m not going to spoil the show by detailing everything, but it is interesting to pay attention on how she has created a different viewing experience (from the regular theater situation where the film is normally projected), as well as how she has extended the world that the film depicts by presenting a “collection” of objects that continue building the fiction.
