Avant-garde Fashion Garments from SAIC Come Into the Limelight


Ordinarily, fashion students at SAIC can gain access to garments in the Fashion Resource Center. After minor check-in procedures, they are able to see, touch and feel the thick stitching on a top made of cowhide leather by Kawakubo, or the construction of an irregularly underwired skirt by Yamamoto. But, through April 7, 2013, the garments will be dressing a collection of lanky mannequins in the shadowy Tadao Ando Gallery of the Asian art wing of the Art Institute of Chicago, as part of the exhibition titled ”Material Translations: Japanese Fashion from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.”
