WORK IT!

Cooperative Education Program Provides Summer Opportunities to Students

This summer over 100 students worked as interns through the School's Cooperative Education Program (Co-op) nationally and internationally.

Lizabeth Immarino created her dream job at the Shedd Aquarium shooting water photography and video. Her photos for the Shedd are now being featured on their website and she recently filmed an underwater team researching mussels in a stream in Arlington Heights. Lizabeth exclaimed: "Working at an aquarium makes me realize I don't have to work in an ocean to do this! It's an unbelievable learning experience!"

Out of approximately 350 Co-op internships, Albena Ivanova chose Stanaszek Goodwin Design in Evanston. Involved in several projects, including a brochure for United Airlines, she works under the supervision of a senior designer. Albena wishes, "We didn't have the limit of taking only up to 12 credit hours of Co-op." Most students take Co-op for 3 credits, working 14 hours a week.

John Marquis initiated his Co-op position at Danetracks in Los Angeles by calling Dane Davis, Academy Award-winning sound effects editor for The Matrix. John helped to create sound effects for 13 Ghosts, a Warner Brothers release this October, and credits his previous internship at iToons animation studio in Chicago for refining his skills. Slightly overwhelmed to be in the thick of Hollywood, John stated: "My internship at Danetracks has far exceeded my expectations. Having participated in Co-op every chance I could, I honestly have confidence in my abilities outside of school."

For more information about getting an internship for the fall semester, come to a Co-op orientation.
