There’s no reason for you to spend any time in Oregon, but if you attended the Portland Documentary and eXperimental Film Festival this year, you might have been able to see Harmony, a new animated short film by SAIC’s own animation instructor and filmmaker, Jim Trainor.

New faculty brings new interest to butterfly wings, artists’ garb, and Skylab

Getsy, an Assistant Professor who received his doctorate from Northwestern University in 2002, taught at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., before returning to Chicago to teach at SAIC. He taught two courses at the school from 1999-2000 while he was a graduate student at Northwestern. When asked why he returned here to teach, he said, “People are excited about what they’re doing and art in general.” He said he thought the school was a “great environment in which to teach and work.”

In Memory of John Reuter-Pacyna, Teacher, SAICAll artwork

John Reuter-Pacyna, a long time faculty member in the Department of Visual Communications, passed away in December 2004. John is most famous among students at SAIC for stripping the process of two-dimensional design to its basics: point, line, shape.

Belltown Paradise/Making Their Own Plans, a collection of essays compiled by SAIC Instructor in Arts Administration, Brett Bloom, outlines the efforts and struggles of the eccentric, artsy Belltown neighborhood of Seattle to transform the Vine Street area into a people centered, green street.
