This is from Danielle Albert, sharing the Pedway secret:
“pedway secret…
I was a little reluctant to share this information with you…
but I decided to be kind to my saic neighbor and share the wealth…
I have recently discovered how to walk to Columbus Drive via the amazing Chicago Pedway…
Here is how you do it:
Enter either through Macy’s [...]

This morning the staff at F Newsmagazine had a casual breakfast meeting with SAIC’s new(ish) President, Duke Rieter.
I don’t want to let all the secrets out of the bag, but here are a few details of the discussion (meh, what secrets? there are no secrets, we’re interested in what everyone thinks…)
The meeting was quite frank [...]

Just thought I’d share this link with the SAIC community - it’s a website memorial to Ben Schaafsma, who co-founded INCUBATE, and studied at SAIC in the Masters of Arts Administration and Policy program. He died on Thursday October 23, 2008. Last night a memorial gathering was held at INCUBATE to celebrate Ben’s life and [...]

Professor Michael Golec
“Don’t let me drive home, I get intoxicated by my own words … I crack myself up. Stay tuned for my blog: ‘Odd Linguistic Formations.’ Ha … that’s another good band name.”
Professor David Getsy
“We all have a tendency to encrust our sentences with the barnacles of everything that we’ve read.”

Just watching the McCain-Obama Town Hall debate at this moment…
and it occurs to me… if McCain is so gung-ho about nuclear power (and he is, he’s so madly enthusiastic about it - build those plants, build heaps of ‘em, they’re safe!) … doesn’t that present a bit of a national security issue, because McCain is [...]

The upcoming October issue of F Newsmagazine will have a more substantial article about the upcoming Rat City Parade, so i won’t give away too much now, but I know that SAIC alum Ben Fain is looking for participants, so if you’re stumped for a Halloween costume, and you like crazy rat suits (who doesn’t?) [...]

I’d like to put forth a number of questions about the concept of the “Artist talk” - to see what the general feeling is about such a thing. I think there are a number of problems in terms of expectations and communications with these sorts of public lectures … of course there are hundreds of [...]

Chicago is soon to have a new art and culture review website. There may be something of a glut of these sorts of things, but this one is by SAIC alums and will have current SAIC students as contributors, and the mock-up looks pretty. It’s going to be nerdybynature.org — not online quite yet, but [...]

SAIC Free Radio Station Manager, Pippa Possible, has a weekly DJ gig.
It’s at the weirdest time, a Wednesday night, at The Continental on Chicago and California, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., but I reckon Wednesday night is just that weird that it might make for a great night out. I mean, Wednesday is like [...]

Well, the Fall semester has commenced, and the best way to describe the looks on everyone’s faces is … it looks like everyone has been thwacked hard in the face with a soggy, old phone book. The best thing to do now is to get used to that crazy - i-have-a-million-things-to-do feeling, to assimilate this [...]

Two parents overheard on the 12th floor of the Sullivan Center:
Father: “…. It’s scary!”
Mother: “Well, Tom, at some point we just have to realize - they’re people too.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.
After climbing up on my moral-highground-environmentalist-dead-keen-recycler-pedestal to write about recycling in Chicago (see one of my recycling articles here) and about the changes to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s recycling contractor (see that article here) … I now find myself committing a cardinal sin of anti-recycling badness.
You [...]

On June 24, 2008, all members of SAIC were sent a rather peculiar “Security Alert” email from SAIC Campus Security.
We would have posted a comment on this email at the time, in late June, but the blog was having technical issues. So here it is now.
To All SAIC Faculty, Staff and Students

We’ve had an interesting discussion behind the scenes of Untitled, regarding blog comments. Our policy towards comments is fairly open, which is why we, in the end, went ahead and published a comment on our post New President: First Thoughts. But we did so a little reluctantly, because the comment evidenced a pretty clear example [...]

SAIC student Erin O’Brien is enacting her Peace Salon performance and activist event on July 4, 5, 18 and 19, at the MCA, Chicago.
The main idea of her open-air buzz cut hair salon is that anyone who is willing to make a “commitment to peace” can come down and get their head shaved as a [...]
