Space in 847 W. Jackson will be leased, including Gallery 2

SAIC has contracted the real estate management firm U.S. Equities to begin marketing 847 W. Jackson by placing signage outside of the building in a search for prospective tenants. According to an all-school email sent by SAIC President Tony Jones, 65,000 square feet of vacant space is available. Since Gallery 2 is located on street level and could be leased “for more than two and a half times the rent per square foot than any other available space in the building,” Gallery 2 may be relocated to the second floor if a tenant is secured. If a tenant is found, more space within the building will be utilized on the fourth and fifth floors to provide “sufficient space” for the BFA and MFA exhibitions held at the end of the year.

Proposal submitted for summer study trip based in Prague

Professor Andrea Reynders, Chair of the Fashion Department, and Adjunct Associate Professor Hennie Reynders of the Department of Interior Architecture have submitted a proposal to SAIC’s curriculum committee for a study trip based in Prague to take place this summer. The plan, which includes flexible art history and/or studio credit options for students, will focus on historical context, with emphasis on the relationship between convention and invention as translated in the fields of fine arts, performance arts, architecture and design of the period before and after WWI. Collaboration, teamwork and a critical analysis of the design process will be encouraged through interdisciplinary discussions with faculty, visiting artists and students from other schools, notably from the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague. The creative design workshop will allow the participating student to evolve through an exhibition of the process, the documentation of the activity and the publication of the project in real time. Watch for more details to be released soon about this unique opportunity!
